Silver Oak PTO's International Night takes you around the world in one evening, to learn and experience the different cultures within our Silver Oak school community.

Bring your family and explore! Fellow Silver Oak families represent a wide array of countries, displaying everything from (artwork, artifacts, and especially food). Students will also participate in a parade showing their traditional dress, and share cultural performances!

We already have a few countries signed up. To name a few… China, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and quite a few more!

For any questions, contact Parent Event Lead, Navjot Sandhu at soepto.events@gmail.com

Country Hosting Overview

When an individual or team volunteers to represent a country at International Night, here is the basic overview of what is involved…

How do the students travel the world?
Each student will be given a passport on the evening of the event. They will answer 3 questions provided by the host country, and their passport will be stamped. Prizes will be provided to students that meet the minimum number of countries they must visit and receive stamps from.

Space: Each country receives 1 full table cafeteria table (2 surfaces). You are required to provide 2 large plastic table covers for these tables.

Displays: Provide at least 1 trifold cardboard display with information about your country (make sure to include information that the passport questions will be about). You may choose how to decorate and display what you would like to represent your chosen country.

Activity: Each country is responsible for providing at least one simple cultural activity or craft. It can be as simple as teaching a game popular in that country, some drawings kids can color and take with them, quick finger painting, etc.

Food: Cultural food and/or drink samples are not required, but have become a very popular feature of the evening, and definitely enjoyed by all. Please avoid nuts due to allergy concerns. If you must have nuts in your dish(es), you must clearly label the item(s), and specify what nut(s) are present.

Dress: You are not required to dress in cultural attire, however, many representatives choose to do so.

Budget: Up to $150 is granted by the PTO for each country. Expenses up to this amount may be claimed for reimbursement with receipts and a completed PTO request form (please have ONE person from your country to submit the reimbursement request). You have the option to spend as much as you need, but only the maximum reimbursable amount of $150 will be given back to you by the PTO.

Live Performance: If you would like to showcase a brief live performance, in addition to your country’s table, please note it on the sign up genius when you sign up. Also, please contact the International Night parent lead, and provide specifics of what you would like to perform, and length of your performance. We ask that you keep the performance 3-5 minutes in length, so that we may accommodate everyone that would like to perform.

Performances must be arranged and approved in advance, as the planning team needs create a schedule for the evening. No event night requests will be allowed.

*Any additional details will be emailed directly to those that volunteer to host a country.

For any questions, please contact your International Lead, Navjot Sandhu at soepto.events@gmail.com

Join us for our annual Silver Oak Earth Day Event

April 20, 2024

To Celebrate Earth Day 2023, 225 Volunteers Transformed the Lily Pad Bus Loop Greenbelt Over Two Days!

On Friday, April 21, 2023 a group of corporate volunteers, and six grade students shoveled soil, and planted drought tolerant perennials.

The very next day, on April 22nd, a group of 120 Silver Oak students and parents along with an additional 70 Cub Scouts (Troop 264 & Troop 251) and their families put in some serious work to beautify our bus loop greenbelt.

We are so grateful for all the volunteers who enthusiastically tackled shoveling 20 cubic yards of dirt, and planted over 1,600 drought tolerant perennials to cover the 8,000 sq foot greenbelt!

Thank you to our sponsors for their generous donations of plants from Capitol Wholesale Nursery, along with soil and mulch from Evergreen Supply. Without their generous donations, this event would not be possible.

A special shout out to Vanessa Bell, Jesselyn Gameng, Jillian Harrell, and Cub Scout Troops 264 & 251 who all helped this event be a huge success. Big thank you to Kristin Hosseinipoor for leading this Earth Day event!!

Update to the garden bed area from Earth Day last year: new irrigation has been installed, all of the garden beds have been painted, and a mural is currently being designed on the wall. It’s wonderful to see all of our hard work from years past continue to grow and flourish.

As we’ve seen over the past two years, each volunteer can make a difference!

Thank you again to those who took the time to beautify our incredible school.
